At Least One Canadian Victim in Barcelone

On Friday Spanish authorities unveiled the nationality of the victims of the attacks perpetrated in Catalonia and Canada is part of the provisional list.

However, it was impossible to know in the morning whether the Canadian victim (s) had succumbed to his injuries or was simply injured.

“World Affairs Canada is contacting local authorities to get more information and we are in touch with family members of affected Canadians to provide consular assistance,” said Ottawa.

For reasons of confidentiality, we are not in a position to publish further details, it added on Friday.

The government says it will continue to monitor the situation closely and ensure every possible effort will be made to help Canadian citizens in Barcelona.

According to the provisional record of the attacks, 14 people were killed in two attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.
