RAM Trucks Recalled Due to Safety Concerns

Fiat Chrysler is recalling nearly 500,000 Ram pickups and chassis cabs due to defective water pumps. The recall is international and around 46,000 of the defective trucks are in Canada. Fiat Chrysler says that the water pumps on certain models may be defective.

This comes just after the news that General Motors is issuing recall for their own pickup trucks due to a problem with the power steering. Most of the Ram trucks were sold in the United States, but 46,220 were sold in Canada and there are nearly 4500 in other international markets as well.

The company says the defect in the water pump may cause a bearing to overheat in certain instances. This could lead to the vehicle’s engine catching on fire. So far, there haven’t been any accidents or injuries due to the defect, and the company has stopped using the defective water pump.

Customers that have a vehicle that is on the recall list will be contacted by the company and a dealership will make the repairs at no charge. The recall is for Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks and Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs from 2013 to 2017.
